The Louis Berger Group has been supporting the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Office of Energy Projects since 1997 as its lead environmental and engineering contractor. FERC is responsible for regulating non-federal hydropower development throughout the United States. LBG assists FERC’s Division of Hydropower Licensing with its licensing decisions to ensure they are consistent with state and federal environmental laws and are based on adequate and sufficient environmental documents. LBG has assisted FERC in more than 150 licensing proceedings, reviewing license applications for adequacy, providing logistical support for scoping meetings, and preparing more than 100 environmental assessments and environmental impact statements. Periodically, LBG performs special studies, including feasibility studies for new construction, Clean Air Act conformity analyses, and review and verification of the outputs of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. LBG also assists the Division of Hydropower Administration and Compliance with its environmental inspections programs and prepares environmental documents in support of FERC decisions on license amendments and various plans filed in compliance with license conditions.
