NEW YORK – Berger Group Holdings, Inc., a global infrastructure and development firm, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a strategic business development partnership with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a global engineering and construction conglomerate, at a ceremony on December 2 in New York, N.Y.

Ziyu Sun, CCCC chief engineer, and Fred Berger, Berger Group board member, shake hands after signing MOU.

The MOU creates a broad-based collaborative relationship between the two companies, designed to advance business opportunities of mutual interest. The partnership will specifically focus on the global engineering and construction markets and is designed to expand to other business opportunities.

Executive representatives from both companies were present at the signing ceremony, including Fred Berger, Berger Group board member, and Ziyu Sun, chief engineer of CCCC.

“One of our company’s founding principles is to transfer knowledge to people in the local countries and communities where we work to ensure the long term sustainability of our projects,” said Berger. “In 1983, our founder and my father, Dr. Berger, began training Chinese engineers on expressway technology. Such collaboration has continued for more than 30 years, and its spirit is embodied in the formalization of a broader and higher level of cooperation between CCCC and the Berger Group.”

The MOU extends the positive working relationship the Berger Group and CCCC have enjoyed over time, formally and informally. CHELBI, formed in 1984, is a joint venture between Louis Berger International and China Highway Planning and Design Institute (HPDI) Consultants, currently an affiliate of CCCC. Through CHELBI, road and bridge computer-aided design technology was introduced into China for the first time. CHELBI is currently the largest joint-venture engineering consulting firm in China.
