Louis Berger won a Distinguished Engineering Award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action for the U.S. Route 22 and Vauxhall Road interchange ramp improvement project. To address unsafe driving conditions in Union Township, N.J., the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) contacted Louis Berger to assist with the U.S. Route 22 and Vauxhall Road interchange ramp improvement project. Additionally, the project included widening Route 22 in an effort to lower the high accident rate experienced in the densely populated area. Louis Berger recommended and designed the construction of an auxiliary lane along Route 22, and a deceleration lane for Route 22 eastbound exit traffic to Vauxhall Road. Addition of the auxiliary lane helped reduce the speed differential between Route 22 traffic and the traffic entering from Vauxhall Road.
