North Tarrant Express Segment 1 & 2W

Engineering News Record (ENR) has selected the Ferrovial-led North Tarrant Expressway Segments 1 and 2W project for its Best of the Best Projects award in the Highway and Bridge category.

Louis Berger provided design services for a substantial section of the 13-mile east-west highway corridor in Tarrant County, Texas. The new corridor has greatly expanded the expressway and has brought traffic relief to commuters in Fort Worth and neighboring cities to the east. Using an aggressive construction timeline, the $2.1 billion project was concluded nine months ahead of schedule and marks the first public-private partnership in North Texas to reach completion. Though more than 200,000 cars traveled the corridor daily, the project saw no life-threatening injuries or fatalities, and had an excellent 0.2 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OCEA) incident rate.

ENR’s Regional Best of the Best Projects competition honors construction and design excellence during the past year. The 2015 Best of the Best winners were chosen by a jury of industry professionals and the ENR editorial team. Projects represent the pinnacle of design and construction achievement in the entire U.S. among projects completed between June 2014 and June 2015.
