Louis Berger received the 2016 IRF Global Road Achievement Award for project management of the Timisoara-Lugoj Motorway in Romania. The Timisoara-Lugoj motorway has helped support Romania’s economic development by improving trade opportunity within the larger European Union and enhancing the standard of living for communities along the route.
Louis Berger provided project management, design and construction supervision, training and advisory services to complete the project well ahead of schedule. Lot 1 of the project was completed eight months ahead of schedule, while Lot 2 was completed seven months ahead of schedule.
The project included 20 highway overpasses, 12 bridges, four rest areas, two road junctions, and two sections of road measuring 35 and 12 kilometers. The motorway increased traffic capacity in the City of Timisoara and between Timisoara and Lugoj, an area which includes 12 additional villages. In addition to the economic advantages from improved commercial transportation, it led to reduced travel times, better passenger safety and environmental safeguards.
The IRF annual Global Road Achievement Awards recognize innovative road projects that emphasize the road industry’s role in social and economic development. Winners are selected by an independent, international panel of judges with expertise in roadway development.
