Jim Stamatis, chief executive officer, was honored with the 2017 Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to New Jersey scouts and for exemplifying BSA values of leadership, personal responsibility and civic duty.
Jim Stamatis accepted the award during the annual Distinguished Citizen Award dinner held by the BSA’s Northern and Central New Jersey Council. The event gathered nearly $160,000 USD from donations. Both 2017 honorees are current or former Louis Berger employees: Jim Stamatis, Louis Berger’s chief executive officer, and Bernard P. McNeilly, currently senior vice president and chief operations officer for WSP U.S.
BSA’s commitment to exposing more young people to STEM echoes Louis Berger’s own STEM education-focused initiatives. In 2013, the firm, in collaboration with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), helped fund the development of the Science and Technology Enrichment Program (STEP), which aims to foster greater appreciation for science and technology among high school students.
Each year, BSA councils nationwide host Distinguished Citizen Award dinners to recognize the extraordinary contributions and civic service of leaders across the U.S. The Distinguished Citizen Award is bestowed upon individuals who inspire youth to lead, to accept responsibility, and to care about principles and causes beyond self interest.
