Upper Diversion Weir on the Las Vegas Wash

The Upper Diversion Weir is part of the Las Vegas Wash Stabilization program; it was an erosion control project that did so much more. The result not only protects the City of Las Vegas from flood potential, but increases the area of the nature center in which it sits and wetland beyond the weir. The weir features a bridge that connects previously separate portions of the county trail system and several species, such as the desert tortoise have restored wildlife habitat and an outfall channel that meanders through the Nature Center including four acres of additional wetland and intermittent waterfalls created by four additional rock weirs.

The ACEC annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate a high degree of innovation, achievement, and value.
