Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport

Louis Berger’s work at Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport was recognized with a Gold distinction for the top public-private partnership in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa by the International Finance Corporation and Infrastructure Journal. Louis Berger provided independent engineering services for the rehabilitation, expansion and modernization of the airport. The firm’s duties included monitoring project schedules and costs, providing technical specifications, overseeing system tests and supervising the construction of a new 100,000-square-meter, 14-gate passenger terminal building. The successful transfer of operations to the new terminal at Queen Alia International Airport took place in March 2013. Upon completion of the expanded facility in 2015, the terminal is expected to accommodate nine million passengers per year, expanding the airport’s role as an important regional hub and boosting Jordan’s economy through increased tourism and commercial trade.

The International Finance Corporation and Infrastructure Journal’s global competition identifies public-private partnerships that demonstrate best practices for collaboration between governments and the private sector. A panel of independent judges selected the winning projects for demonstrating high levels of innovation, development vision, replicability and social impact.
