Regional Flood Control Master Plan

Louis Berger won an Environmental Project of the Year Award from the Nevada chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the Regional Flood Control Master Plan project, which provides 100-year flood protection and a recreational pathway for a one-mile stretch of the Flamingo Wash in Clark County, Nev. The firm was selected by the Clark County Department of Public Works to design channel improvements for approximately two miles of the wash following a severe flood. Louis Berger completed the design of the Flamingo Wash from Eastern Avenue to Desert Inn Road. The work included the preliminary and final design of a 4,500-foot-long concrete channel to convey a 100-year flood flow through a narrow corridor within a densely populated urban area in the Las Vegas valley.

The Nevada chapter of APWA recognizes Environmental Projects of the Year based on the project’s degree of service to the public, community need, intricacy of design, aesthetic value, difficulty of construction, cost and time growth, complexity of funding and sustainability.
