Ammann & Whitney’s Rye Construction group has been overseeing the largest project ever let by ConnDOT, the Reconstruction of the I‐95/I‐91/Route 34 Interchange in New Haven, Connecticut.  As a result of our continued outstanding performance on this project, and on the Reconstruction of Route 25 in Trumbull and other projects across the state, we were recently selected to provide Construction Engineering & Inspection (CE&I) services for Contract #9 of the New Britain‐Harƞord Busway Program, also known as CTfastrak. CTfastrak will provide congestion relief along I‐84 by providing a dedicated busway within abandoned rail right‐of‐way and adjacent to existing Amtrak service between New Britain and Harƞord. Ammann & Whitney designed and is currently providing construction phase services for another busway segment, Contract #3.

Contract #9 involves the removal of the I‐84 eastbound on‐ramp from Flatbush Avenue and a bridge over the Lower Smith School Brook in Harƞord. Much of the ½ mile long ramp is on structure. A significant element of the work will be the construction of a 10‐acre wetland mitigation site, including 5 acres of upland plantings.  The new ramp will be constructed on lightweight geofoam blocks. The primary function of the geofoam is to provide lightweight fill below highway, bridge approaches, and embankments to minimize settlement.
