MORRISTOWN, N.J.— The Louis Berger Group, Inc. (Louis Berger) recently celebrated the first commercial test flight from the New Terminal Building at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSRIA) in the Republic of Mauritius. Louis Berger serves as program manager of the airport expansion project on behalf of Airport Terminal Operations Ltd., a company formed by Airports of Mauritius Limited (AML) and Aéroports de Paris Management.
Louis Berger has been responsible for design reviews and approvals, project management and supervising construction of the new terminal capable of handling 4 million passengers annually. The new terminal was constructed with an environmentally sustainable design that maximizes solar energy use.
“Since establishing a Mauritian branch in 2010, Louis Berger has expanded its presence in the Indian Ocean and adjacent regions,” said Diego Rincón, vice president and director of Louis Berger’s Global Aviation business segment. “This project presents an opportunity to contribute to tourism growth and development by leveraging modern, state-of-the-art facilities and mechanisms to enhance travel to and from the island.”
Since the soft opening of the terminal earlier last month, additional trial flights and training processes have been ongoing. Construction of the new terminal began in March 2010. Start-up operations will begin this summer.
