MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Louis Berger has hired industry veteran Shekar Shanmugam as a senior vice president for power and energy. In this role, he will provide strategic direction for Louis Berger’s power and energy practice, and will lead large-scale pursuits and business development efforts.

“Shekar will add significant expertise to Louis Berger’s growing bench of power and energy experts,” said Tom Lewis, president of Louis Berger’s U.S.-based operating company. “Shekar’s industry contacts and extensive experience with power and energy projects will significantly impact how we continue to drive value for our clients and partners here in the United States and internationally.”

With a professional career spanning nearly 25 years, Shanmugam brings proven experience building regional and national programs in the private and federal sectors for top Engineering News-Record ranked firms. He has led significant pursuits in siting, permitting, environmental services, design and engineering, program management, engineering, procurement, and construction management for fossil fuel, renewable energy, biofuels, industrial, chemical and mining projects.

Before joining Louis Berger, Shanmugam held leadership positions at URS Corporation, Woolpert and TetraTech. Most recently, as vice president of URS Corporation’s infrastructure and environment division, he established and led the growth of the firm's federal energy practice. There, he also successfully led the division president’s initiative to expand and grow the private sector renewable energy and power programs in the mid-Atlantic and southern regions of the United States.

Shanmugam holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and has completed his graduate studies in chemical engineering from Auburn University.
