Louis Berger manages military fuel storage site in South Carolina

The Defense Fuel Supply Point is a U.S. military bulk jet fuel storage facility in Hanahan, S.C., on the outskirts of Charleston.

Fuel at the supply point must be safely received and distributed to five Air Force, Army and Air National Guard bases in the region.

The Defense Logistics Agency Energy hired Louis Berger to manage and maintain the Defense Fuel Supply Point. Louis Berger oversees receipt of the fuel by truck, barges and ocean-going tanker ships. Fuel is issued via pipeline, rail car and truck.  A 5 ½ mile pipeline connects to Charleston Air Force Base for fuel shipments.

The contract requires Louis Berger to handle about 150 million gallons of Jet Propellant 8 fuel (JP8) annually. The contract includes a considerable number of task order repair and build projects. Careful attention must also be given to environmental concerns in handling and storing the fuel.

Louis Berger has received an “Exceptional” rating from the Department of Defense on this contract.
